The AEA is launching an Environmental Epidemiology Special Interest Group (SIG). Founded by Professor Thomas Astell-Burt at the University of Wollongong, the AEA Environmental Epidemiology SIG currently has two aims.

  1. To support growth in collaboration between, and capacity-strengthening of, environmental epidemiologists in AEA countries (Australia, New Zealand, and neighbouring countries).
  2. To foster and harness synergies between environmental epidemiologists working and/or studying in AEA countries with international counterparts.

The main aim of this hub is to boost collaboration between the Epidemiology units operating in each of the Australian State and Territory Government Health Departments.

Jurisdictional Epidemiology units undertake similar work and face similar issues in relation to data collection, analysis methods, reporting and knowledge/research translation. The collaboration is an opportunity to share methods and issues arising from population health data analysis and to advance leadership in conducting policy-relevant research in government.
