The attendance of so many cardiovascular epidemiologists at the recent Annual Conference of the AEA in Perth prompted local cardiovascular epidemiologists Dr Judy Katzenellenbogen and Dr Lee Nedkoff (UWA) to convene a meeting of like-minded colleagues. With an attendance of nearly 20 conference delegates from across Australia and New Zealand, it was confirmed that a Cardiovascular Disease Special Interest Group would be formally established under the auspices of the AEA. The group will aim to foster collaboration between members, develop specific projects, and support early career cardiovascular epidemiologists.

An annual meeting is expected to be held at the upcoming AEA conference in Brisbane in 2019.
