On the second day of the 2018 AEA conference, Dr. Sonia El-Zaemey, coordinator of the Cancer Council Western Australia Cancer Epidemiology Network, organized an informal meeting to discuss the possibility of establishing a cancer epidemiology special interest group (SIG) within AEA. The meeting was attended by approximately 40 people who are active in cancer epidemiology research. During the meeting, attendees proposed activities that they would like to see from this group. Based on this meeting it was recognized that it will be useful to formally establish this group, with objectives to provide a forum for focused discussion on cancer epidemiology research, knowledge exchange, encourage collaborative relationships and support the next generation of cancer epidemiologists. Dr. Bridie Thompson from QIMR Berghofer; Dr. Pierre-Antoine Dugué from Cancer Council Victoria; Dr. Susan Jordan from QIMR Berghofer; Dr. Terry Boyle from the University of South Australia and Dr. Tam Ha from the University of Wollongong have kindly volunteered to work with Dr. Sonia El-Zaemey to establish and facilitate this new SIG.
